Dr. Bill’s Recipe for Optimum Pet Nutrition

Nutrition is one of the most significant variables when it comes to your pet’s health. Luckily for pet owners, it is also one of the easiest variables to control. Adjusting your pet’s diet for optimum nutrition will lead to healthier, happier pets. Take a look at my recipe for optimum pet nutrition and learn how you can help your pet thrive.

1. Recognize that your pet has individual nutritional needs that change throughout its life.

In other words, one food cannot meet the varying wellness needs throughout your pet’s life. Puppies have different nutritional requirements than senior dogs. In order to help your pet live the healthiest life possible, make sure to learn about life stage pet nutrition.

2. Don’t buy into pet food advertising.

Not all pet foods are good for your pet! Learn to read pet food labels so you can actually select a good basic pet diet that fits your pet’s nutritional needs. Avoid foods that are high in carbohydrates. Dogs and cats are obligate carnivores, and their diet should consist of at least 50% protein.

3. Feed 20% less than most pet foods recommend.

Daily amounts are set too high and are causing an obesity epidemic. Adjust food quantities by observing your pet and knowing when nutritional needs increase or decrease.

4. Use a fully balanced pet nutritional supplement

Nutritional supplements are a great way to make sure your dog is getting the essential vitamins and nutrients they need for a long and healthy life. Many pet foods lack these nutrients, so supplementing your pet’s diet can help bridge this “nutritional gap” and help boost their vitality.

5. Stay away from high calorie, low-quality pet treats.

Many pet treats are packed with calories and low-quality, unhealthy ingredients. Try to give your pet high-quality, protein-based treats, or, consider making your own healthy pet treats at home! Your dogs and cats will thank you!

6. Consider adding probiotics to your pet’s diet.

Probiotics regulate digestion and enhance nutrient absorption for better health. Giving you pet probiotics can also give your pet a significant immunity boost and balance sensitive digestive systems.
